English 11 Homework for Monday, Dec. 1 and the rest of the week:

1. F451: Clean up/Develop your LC#3 notes so that you can use them next week when you develop your Essay Outline.

2. Kohlberg' Stages of Moral Development: Take some time to study this handout over the next few days, so you can apply it to your essay. You will be applying these stages to Montag, through concrete examples, but also to a few other important characters to show comparison or contrast to his development. Start thinking about it and building ideas and references from the novel.  You will be writing this Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.

3. F451 and "The Tiger"Paragraph to be written on Monday: Bradbury chose to use William Blake's poem for his title for Part 3 of his novel. How does the imagery, the symbols, and theme of Blake's poem illuminate Part Three of F451? 

The poem explores a spiritual and moral problem: the tiger is both beautiful and destructive, made from the "forges" or fire of the creator, and becomes a symbol for the presence of evil-destruction in the world, but also of purification- fire). Only a powerful being, an artist, could create and destroy so well.  How does the presence of both goodness and evil, and of destruction and purification, help us understand Part Three of Fahrenheit 451? You will not have notes for the in-class writing of the paragraph, so develop your ideas over the weekend.

English 10 Homework for Monday, Dec. 1:

1. Feed: Write up all your notes from your two Literature Circles and bring them with you on Monday.

2. Synthesis Essay Revisions Due Monday: a)These revisions are due between 8:15 and 8:20 on Monday morning from both A and D Blocks. 

b)All of you who scored 15 or less must do these revisions. You are to improve your Introduction, and two Body Paragraphs.  You are to underline ALL the changes you make. You do not have to underline the parts that you did not change -only underline the parts you changed. 

c) if you changed EVERYTHING, write "Complete Rewrite" at the top of the first page of your Revision.

d)staple your original essay underneath your revision.

E) Again: your revision is due at 8:20 Monday morning or you will not get credit. If you are student who is chronically late, you need to change your schedule, or you will not get credit.  Get it all done by Sunday, staple it, put it in your binder so you don't forget it.

English 10 Homework for Thursday, Nov. 27:

1. Feed - LC#3: Write up your notes from today's LC, and be thinking about the "big ideas" in the novel.

2. Synthesis Essay Revision: These are due on Monday. You must improve your Introduction and Thesis Statement, and two Body Paragraphs.  I am not taking any "lates" on this one, as I have given you enough time to work on it.

English 11 Homework for Thursday, Nov. 27:

1. F451-LC#3: Tidy up the notes you took today in you LitCircle. 

2. The Tiger: Read the poem several times first, then start an analysis of the poem. Identify, the stanza form, the rhyme scheme, rhythm, imagery, symbols, questions, vocabulary, ideas and theme. Near the end of the block tomorrow, your group will present one stanza.

3. Kohlberg's Stages of Moral Development: Please be reading this handout. You need to do this carefully and you need to be taking notes. Do not mark up the handout in any way. Also read "Heinz Dilemma" on the last page - an example of how the stages work.  Try to create an example of your own.

English 11 Homework for Wednesday, Nov. 26:

1. F451 LC#3: You should finalize your LC Role, developing it well, word-processing it, and printing out two copies.

2. You should also have a good working document of Allusions and References for Part Three to help you through your LitCircle.

3. Please be reading the handout on Kohlberg's Moral Stages. Look up words you don't know to help yourself through it.

1. Feed LC #3: Complete your LC Role, developing it, organizing it and word-processing it. Please bring 2 copies.

English 11 Homework for Tuesday, Nov. 25:

1. Fahrenheit LC#3: You should be working at home tonight developing your LC Roles, and working to finish tomorrow. You will be doing these roles on Wednesday and Thursday. Please include Bradbury's Afterword and Coda in some way. 

You should all be working on Allusions and References for Part Three. Identify the important ones in this section and do the research on them.  Make good notes. 

You should also be taking some time to read through the Kolhberg handout.
