English 11 Homework for the March Break, due March 30:
1. Personal Edit Checklist: Create this document from the Exemplar I showed you in class. Print two copies and bring them on March 30th.
2. Read the multi-page Handout, "Romanticism as a Period and a Concept" carefully and thoughtfully. Then follow the instructions on the other single-page handout, "The Romantic Age."
Do your work thoroughly and word-process, preferably in paragraphs, and do not mark up the multipage handout, which I will be taking back. Your entries should be clear and reasonably developed. You should research beyond the multi-page Handout.
** The Arts section, #7, requires some careful research, also. Look for the these poets, novelists, painters, and musicians - read, view and listen to their works.
3. Now you are ready to do The Chart: The Enlightenment World View vs. The Romantic Age World View: using the Chart paper, create a chart showing the changes in the values of the "Enlightenment World View" to the Romantic World View. These are essentially attitudes, beliefs, values, culture etc. that you learned from you readings and research. I expect you to identify 10 to 12 values (bullets) in order to show these important changes.
Example:
The Enlightenment World View (Values)
-saw the outer world through scientific observation - the logical and factual
-another bullet with a value
-another bullet with a value (10-12 in all)
When you finish this side of the Chart, do the other side: the Romantic World View (Values) by following each bullet from the Enlightment values on the left ---------------drawing a line to the right and explaining how each value changed in the Romantic Age. Complete the chart.
Make a schedule and get it done without stress.
This is all due on March 30th.
Have a productive and enjoyable time!
