English 12 Homework for Wednesday to Friday and Monday: 

*Please have your Binder Dividers by Monday so we can set up our Portfolios. See below.

*Also, by Monday, bring your Overviews back with your Parents signatures on the last page.

Homework: Read the poem "Working in the Rain," and do the multiple choice. Always read a poem several times to fully understand it. Look up words you don't know.

Then read the second text: "Escape: In Search of the Natural Soul of Canada." Read it a few times to get the sense of it.  Then do the multiple choice. Come with ideas of synthesis.

**In your groups on Monday you will share your ideas of synthesis with the class.

1. Portfolio Set up: I would like you to have 8 Binder Dividers by Monday, so we can set up your Portfolios. Go to Staples and get a set of 8 Dividers that have 8 tabs that you can write on.

2. Your Personal Essay should be completed by the end of the day Monday, at the latest. 

You are to reflect and examine yourself and the person you want to be in this world and this century.  This is an essay about oneself - YOU - and what kind of human you want to be. This is not about jobs, but about your moral center and how it will take you through life.

You will have a few days to work on it. 

3. Keep abreast of current events, and be able to update, daily.

3. Please let your parents know that if you are not coming to school, I need a phone call from your parent or guardian by 8am directly to me to my phone, 604-668-6668,  extension 8044. I will be here to pick it up.

4. Tomorrow you will continue to develop your Personal Essay.  This is an essay where you describe/reflect on your moral self, and how you want to develop as a moral person. 

You should be developing your ideas tonight to help you write tomorrow: however, you may not have notes in class. You need to consider what attitudes and qualities are  important to you that could enhance your life. What to you hope to achieve as a moral person?  Look towards the next 3 or 4 or years.

**This essay is diagnostic - this will help me I assess your writing skills and your ability to reflect. You need to do your best.

I would like it to be finished at the end of your block, Monday.

1. Current Events: Research and prepare thorough notes that describe the what, where and why and who, of Donald Trump's Refugee Ban. Consider who it affects and how Canada and the world is responding to it. Go online or watch the news (ie. CBC) to get more analysis. Also, check on Trudeau's response to this, also.

Be prepared to share your own thoughts and opinions on this important issue, in class tomorrow. Brings notes with you. 

 English 10 Homework for Tuesday,  Jan 24:

 1. You should be finished your "Whale Poem" and "The Lonely Land," by the end of tomorrow. I will give you some time at the end of the day to finish.

Make sure you have all your work in your Portfolio by Wednesday. 

English 11 Homework for Tuesday, 23rd:

1. Juxtaposition of two elements: True love celebrated by goddesses, nymphs, and reapers vs. Foolish ambition pursued by three drunks.

In your group, and as homework, discuss these contrasting elements.  Select key lines and events that illustrate these contradictory elements of this act. 

Examine the lines of the text that bridge the two sections. Do the two episodes have any common features?  Explain your ideas, bring your notes to share tomorrow.

Try a T-chart.

English 10 Homework due Friday: 

If you were away Friday, you must put your Essay Revision in my basket by 8:20 am, Monday.

1. "Whale Poem" and "The Lonely Land" poems. In class, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, you are to do the S.I.F.T for each poem. Then you are to do the questions for "Whale Poem" and "The Lonely Land" on the Weekend - Hand written.  

**You should be finished the Synthesis Essay by end of the day Tuesday, preferably. I will give you a bit of extra time on Wednesday. 

The Essay structure has a Introductory Paragraph, 2 paragraphs of analysis/synthesis, and an excellent conclusion. You should know what is required in all paragraphs.

 

 

English 11: There is no Homework this weekend.  Enjoy! 

If you have not done your Tempest performance, you will do Monday, first thing.

1. Marriage Ceremony: from Act 4, Scene 1, line 60 - 117 rewrite and present the Wedding Masque in our modern English making sure that you are in the tone and the spirit of the original script. 

Take photos of the glossary to understand  Shakespeare's script, then start working to update it into modern English; but you could also use Shakespeare Navigator to help you rewrite the script, but not word for word. Make sure you are developing the script yourself, and keeping the meaning. 

You will need to practice your script and then present it to the class.  You must be one of the characters: Iris, Juno or Ceres. 

You must have some props to indicate each goddess: Iris has a rainbow; Ceres has wheat; and Juno has a crown.
