English 10 Homework for Thursday, April 16:

1. TKMB- Theme Work Page: Word process your Theme page, again, if you need to. Bring it tomorrow.  Also do a page for Motif and Theme, that I had on the board.

2. TKMB- Work on Chapters 1-5, collecting quotes, and then explaining how those quotes develop your Theme.

Page 17, para. 7:  Miss Caroline apparently thought I was lying. "Let's not let our imaginations run away with us, dear," she said. "Now you tell your father not to teach you any more.  It's best to begin reading with a fresh mind.  You tell him I'll take over from here and try to undo the damage-" 

 

Scout is admonished by her first-grade teacher Miss Caroline, for knowing how to read.  Miss Caroline believes that a parent does not have the ability to teach reading, only a certified teacher like her can.  This is ironic, as Scout is above average in her abilities, but is not being recognized for it; instead she is being condemned.  This develops the theme of education, in that it shows how some people do not understand what education really is. It is not something that must be learned only one way, but can be learned in many different ways throughout our lives
