Ms. Tyre's English 10 Homework for Tues. Dec. 3:

1. Read the first 5 chapters of TKMB.

2. Ongoing work throughout the novel study: You should have separate documents for each- be organized.

a) Theme work: develop your theme as you read by choosing direct references from the novel, and writing down the direct reference from the novel and writing a paragraph for each that explains/shows how it builds the theme. Not all chapters will build your particular theme, but read carefully so you can identify when the story does so.

b) Literary Devices: collect examples of imagery (vivid description), motifs (recurring items, occurrences, etc.), metaphors, similes, allusions, irony.  Look each of these devices up and look at definitions and examples online to understand them. Write down examples of these devices as you read the novel.  Be organized in your note-taking.

c) Choose a character: track them as you read and build a profile of them. Point form will be fine. You are trying to understand them as a human being and how they are changing as they experience what they do. Be descriptive.

D)Do 2 "Focus on Thinking' questions for each chapter. Choose the one's that help you learn important things.
