Ms. Tyre's Homework for Wednesday, May 14:

A. Questions: 1. What year was Macbeth first produced?  2. Who was Shakespeare honoring by writing this play? 3. Who is the real Banquo? How does he relate to King James?

B. Imagining and Dramatizing Act 1, scene i: In your groups of 3, produce your own interpretation of Act 1, scene i of Macbeth. You must use Shakespeare's script for your words, but you can interpret them in your own way. Shakespeare does not provide us with much- so get creative!  You must maintain the atmosphere of the scene: that is, it is not a comedy, it is much darker.

Consider the 5 senses:

1. Sight: What do the witches look like: hair, clothes, faces? Are they male or female, young or old, or both? Get unreal, they are supernatural!

 2. Sound: The scene opens with thunder and lightning. What other sounds might they hear?  The script might help you a little.  Be imaginative.  How do the witches sound when they say their lines? Are they singing, chanting, wheezing, cackling...loud or whispering...?

3. Taste: Are they eating or drinking? What? Could there be a taste to the air? It may not be in the lines, but could be in their actions.

4. Smell: Where are they? What does it smell like?  How do they smell? Can an emotion or atmosphere have a smell? They can act it!

5. Touch: What are they holding or doing with their hands? Are they touching each other or their familiars?  Be creative!
