English 9 Homework for Wednesday, Dec. 9:

Romeo and Juliet:

1. Read the Handout "Verona," to give you a sense of its history.

2. Go online and look at visuals of Verona, particularly the older parts of it. Also get a sense of the tourism there. Have some interesting facts to share with the class.

3. At the top of page 533, is the Prologue to the play. It is written as a sonnet. What is a sonnet? Look it up.  How many lines are there in a sonnet?

4. Read the sonnet several times, look up words that you do not know: dignity, grudge, mutiny, civil, fatal, loins, piteous, misadventured, star-crossed, toil, naught, strife and doth.

5. Do the "Romeo and Juliet Prologue Questions" 1-6.
