Ms. Tyre's English 10 Homework for Monday, Sept. 30:
1. Allegory of the Cave: This needs to be improved, both in formatting and in content.Redo your chart in bullets that are written in full sentences; this will be written for both the surface and underlying meanings. Read your Allegory paragraph by paragraph and show surface and underlying meanings explaining each sufficiently. Your understanding and writing of the growth of the prisoner that escaped is important. It is painful. Deal with his growth carefully. And also deal carefully with the other prisoners and their life. This is due on Monday.
2. Babylon Paragraph: Finish your 1st Draft of your paragraph discussing the symbolism of Babylon. Do a self-edit, preferably after you have had someone read it and give you feedback. Use a different coloured pen or pencil looking for your errors in sentences, punctuation, vocabulary and transitions. Write a 2nd Draft that shows improvement and word-process it. In fact, it is better if you do your rewriting on a Word document. This is due on Monday.
3. "Many Workmen": Your second draft is due Tuesday. Make sure to staple your 1st Draft underneath the 2nd.
3. Start a Glossary: you should be building your vocabulary throughout the course. When you learn new words, enter them in your Glossary in your binder and use the following format:
Word: part of speech (Noun, Verb, Adjective, Adverb)
Definition: choose the definition that is appropriate for the context the word is used in
Sentence: write an original sentence the clearly shows you understand the meaning of the word.
Use this format for all words.
