A. Connotation:  what is this literary concept? Be able to explain connotation by finding and analyzing two or three examples. Use the internet to help you explain the concept and to find examples. Start with the one below.

"Fire and Ice" by Robert Frost.  Read it several times, and do the two questions below.

1. The meaning of this poem rests largely on the connotations of the two nouns in the title. What are these connotations?

2. What other words in the poem are associated with fire? Which are associated with ice? What are the associations? 

B. Now find another poem that uses connotation and explain the poem and its  connotations clearly.
