English 10 Homework for the Weekend:Due Monday, Dec. 15: 

Please do not mark up any of the Handouts. Write your work on your own paper.

1. Read "Whale Poem"by Milton Acorn on page 5 of handout "Poetry 10". Go online and watch a number of videos of whales in the water, listen to them breath, breach and feed. Read the poem several times to let it sink in. A) Do the questions on the handout "Questions to Help You Thoughtfully Discuss Poems." (don't do the chart)  B) Also, do the questions 2-4 underneath the poem. Write in multiple sentences and explain.

2. Read "The Lonely Land", several times, and look up all words you do not know and write them down and their definitions. Then go online and find "The Group of Seven paintings: Tom Thompson."  You should be able to find his paintings of Georgian Bay in Ontario. Then do the questions 1 to 4 in the handout. (you do not need the "Questions to Help..."for this poem).  Use the literary devices document that you printed earlier in the course to help you. Of course, read the poem several times as you make your way through the assignment.
