English 10 Homework for Friday and Monday, Feb. 16:

1.Your Binder should be set up with 8 dividers and labeled accordingly. Please have lined paper in your binder also.

2. Friday's Homework: I will be checking all the Homework that was due on Friday. The work was to 1) Read and reread the first paragraph of "The Loons" by Margaret Laurence. Read it again. Do not read further. Look up all the words you do not understand, then enter them in the Glossary section of your binder in the following format:

Word: part of speech (noun, verb, adverb, or adjective)                                                Definition: write a definition that is appropriate                                              Sentence: write a full sentence with word in it.

Also, I will also be checking that your Friday homework showing and explaining the historical references and other events and objects in the first paragraph are completed. Also, that you know the time period that the story takes place in. Write every thing up in your notes, in full sentences, so you can understand and use them later.  Also, describe the Tonnerre homestead in your own words, and what it tells us about the family.

3. Overviews Signed: by Monday at the latest. Please put your full name and block on this Overview before you hand it in.

4. "The Loons": 

a) Continue reading the story to page 181, to the end of the third paragraph - "lighted lamps at home." Read carefully and thoughtfully.  

2) Glossary: continue your Glossary entries to 181, end of paragraph 3, also.

3) Historical references etc: Look up any historical references and other events or objects that you need to, in order to understand what you are reading.

4) Character and Background: Write down your thoughts about Vanessa's character and background, and Piquette's character and background. Be descriptive and include examples. These entries can be paragraphs of 4 or 5 sentences each.
