English 10 Homework for Wed. Sept. 23:

1. Write a proper paragraph describing the surface and underlying meaning of Stephen Crane's allegory, "Many Workmen."

This paragraph must have a Topic Sentence with the Author, "Title," and your main point. The following sentences include the surface story, but more importantly, the underlying meaning. The underlying meaning is very important, so develop this clearly and sufficiently. You must also include one real life example of the underlying meaning. The final sentence is your Concluding Sentence - that reveals an important truth about human nature that the allegory shows us.

This is a paragraph of several sentences, 3/4 to a full page double spaced. Please word-process this paragraph, in 12 pt. font, Times New Roman. And, you should attempt to integrate one or two quotations in your paragraph. See below for an example.

ie. When the workmen set their masonry ball on the mountain top and "behold their work," calling it "grand," they are being arrogant instead of cautious.
