English 9 Homework Due Monday, May 9:

1. Your Sentence by Sentence revision of your Synthesis Essay is due tomorrow-Tuesday, May 10. Staple the original underneath.

2. Shakespeare: You have done the "Introduction to Shakespeare Quiz" to the end of question 4. You should be word-processing this work, but tomorrow bring this work tomorrow so you can continue working on it in class. You can word-process it at home.

Writing in full sentences and develop your answers. You will are reading pp. 526-529 in the Orange Text, and the Handout "London Life." Bring these with you. 

3. Your rewritten paragraph of the symbolism of the kite in "A Christmas Memory" is due Wednesday. Please have it word-processed, 12 pt. ft., and double-spaced.

 




English 12 Homework for Monday, May 9:

1. Please bring the article "Rotten Ice" back to class if you haven't: 6 have not come in.

2. What is the "objective" point of view.  Have three examples of it. 

3. "Personal Helicon" by Seamus Heaney. Always read a poem as many times as you need to and read the vocabulary notes at the bottom of the page, as they will help you understand the poem better.

Please do the multiple choice, and then do the paragraph question: "In paragraph form, and with specific reference to the poem, discuss the importance of the wells to the speaker." Be sure to integrate references into your paragraph.

4. Please develop ideas on the following questions: 

a) What is a "tempest?" Define the term. 

b) Find three or four examples of "tempests" and bring them to class. 

c) Be prepared to discuss the effects of tempests. 

d) What is the root word: where does it come from, and how is "time" a part of its meaning?

 


English 11 Homework due Thursday, April 28:

Read John Donne's poem "Death, be not proud." 

1. Read the poem several times, before you look online.

2. Look up words you don't know. Also make sure you understand Personification and Apostrophe.

3. Write a paragraph showing your understanding of the poem.

4. Do an exellent S. I. F. T.

English 11 Homework for Yesterday, Monday, April 26 and Tomorrow April 27:

1. Yesterday's Homework should be done. See yesterday's blog.

Today's homework is to complete the Metaphor poem "A Kite is a Victim" and the S.I.F.T of the poem - then write a metaphorical poem yourself. You can do this in pairs if you like. Bring it tomorrow to share with the class.

English 9 Homework for Wednesday, April 27:

1. You should have a completed Introductory Paragraph with Thesis  - word-processed.

Today, keep working on your First and Second and Third Body Paragraphs. These are the ideas of Synthesis you are working on in each BP.  For now, do this in bullet form. Later they will be fully written out. So for each Body Paragraph do the following:

* First Body Paragraph:Topic Sentence 1 should be first and fully written out.

*  first idea of Synthesis for BP 1

*  second idea of Synthesis for BP 1

*  third idea of Synthesis for BP 1

*  concluding sentence for BP 1

Do exactly the same process for BP 2 and BP 3. Work on the BPs today and tomorrow, using the bullet for in the example above.  

Word process it so it is legible and you can change your writing and ideas easily.  If you can bring your computers, then do so.


English 12 Homework for Tuesday and Wednesday, April 26 and 27:

1. Keep working on your ideas for the Synthsis Essay that you will begin to write on Wednesday. Your Outline should include the following:

a. A fully developed Introductory Paragraph with thesis. 

b. Three Body Paragraphs, each with a fully developed Topic Sentence AND 5-8 bullet points: some for synthesis and others for discussion of ideas.

c. Concluding Paragraph with the Thesis Reworded first, and 3-4 sentences that universalize your essay to the real world

d. A list of integrations you will use in quotes.

English 11 Homework due Monday, April 25: 1-6

1. Read "The Credo" by Robert Fulghum, 2 or 3 times, as a poem takes time to settle in you. What is a "credo"?  Write a personal short poem in response to "The Credo." 

2. Read the poem in Inside Poetry,"Poetry" by Pablo Neruda. Always read a poem several times.

3. Look up words in the poem that you need to. Write them down and define them.

4. S. I. F. T. Neruda's poem following every step in the S. I. F. T. Be thorough.

5. Read page one "Personal Response:The Poetry of Experience."

6. Then read and S. I. F. T. "ancestors" by Carolyn Dunn, "A Backwards Journey," "All the Dreaming" by Kathy Sinclair, "Fairy Tales" by Shu Ting, and "The Child Who Walks Backwards" by Christine Craig. 

Bring all your work to class on Monday.

English 12 Homework for Monday, April 25:

1. Be working on the organization and the ideas for your Synthesis of "Learning to Die in the Anthropocene" and "Progress." Write down all the ideas from the board, as well as all your own ideas.  Consider the comparisons,  differences, and consider themes. Make sure you find the concrete examples from the texts, that you will need.

Over the weekend, you should read the article "Rotten Ice," as there are concrete examples of global warming. 

You need to start organizing your ideas for the essay, in bullet form. I expect three well-developed Body Paragraphs. Get started on all this. Next Wednesday you will start writing this in-class essay. 

I also encourage you to research more, on your own to get a better understanding of the issues. both in class and at home.

English 9 Homework for Monday's class:

1. Introductory Paragraph and Thesis: improve the paragraph and Thesis Statement.

2. Also, get started on the organization and content of your Body Paragraphs. Work in point form for now. Use your Chart. I will expect to see something done. 

Continue to word-process your work: 12 pt. font, Times New Roman or Calibri, double-spaces.

3. Your Chart entries should be well-developed in ideas, written in full sentences and multiple sentences, that include concrete examples from the stories.

English 12 Homework Due Monday, April 18:

A. Be working on the following:

1) Read the article "Learning to Die in the Anthropocene" more than once.

2) Do a Glossary of words, ie. Word: definition  

3) Write a paragraph overview of the article.

4) Write a theme paragraph. Read my Theme Handout to refresh your understanding of theme.  Understand it before you write it.

B.  Complete your Provincial Synthesis Essay over the weekend. Double-space your work, and be prepared to discuss your ideas.


English 11 Homework Monday, April

1. You are developing the outline of your, both the structure and the ideas for your Synthesis Essay of "Totem" and "The Lottery." 

Use the vocabulary you have learned, and the ideas you have developed on your own, and from the class presentations. 

You will begin writing the essay on Monday.  Please have your Outline word-processed and have a copy for me, as well.

English 9 Homework for Wednesday, April 13:

1. Theme Paragraph for Theories of Relativity: Rewrite your Theme Paragraph for tomorrow. Please word-process it and double space and hand it in.

2. Word Process all of the "A Feeling of Power" assignment as well: Complete all the work from A-G

A) Read this short story carefully.

B) Look up any words you don't know, write them down and define them. These should be in the Glossary section of your Binder.    

C) Do Personal Response questions 1, 2, 3, 4. 

D)Do A Creative Response for question 5; and do all the Critical Response questions.  

E) Look up situational and dramatic irony and create 2 examples of each. 

F) And...write a thoughtful paragraph for question 7.  

G Read the short story "Segregationist" two times.  Write down Words and Definitions in your Glossary for the words you need to look up.


English 11 Homework for Monday, April 11:

1. "Totem" and "The Lottery"synthesis: After your Friday's group of sharing and working through the texts and synthesis ideas,  you are to organize your group presentation. On Monday, each group will share their ideas, and questions if you have them, with the class. Everyone must participate. Prepare your presentation over the weekend.

Alicia and Ricky: you must have your "Progress" assignment in my basket by 8:20.

1. Anthropocene: You are to have an extended definition with examples. This is a well developed paragraph.

2. The Prompt:"The choices we make have consequences. In essay structure, and in the first person, write an engaging, authentic personal essay on this topic.  This is a 5 paragraph essay - about you. You must have real life examples, and write to engage the reader.  Double space your work, and indent your paragraphs.

3. Bring $5 for the play.

English 9 Homework for Thursday, April 7 :

1. a) Each of you will create 2 more examples for your role to share tomorrow with your group. These do not need to be word-processed, but they need to be developed. 

3. Three Stories Essay Revision: This will be due on Thursday. A) This is either a "sentence by sentence revision" following the Handout.... If you have asked me and I have given you permission, you may rewrite your essay in full and underline all changes. 

**In each case, staple the original essay underneath revision. Please word-process your work!! You will lose marks if you don't.


English 11 Homework for Monday, April 4:

1. Have your "Totem" presentation ready for Monday.  Each person in the group should have a copy of the Presentation, but you are to send a word-processed copy to me, also, via my e-mail, by early Monday morning. I will put these up on the projector when you are doing your presentation.
