English 10 Homework for Monday, Mar. 2:

1. Read "The Stolen Party" in the Storyteller anthology.  READ IT MORE THAN ONCE.

2. Using the questions in the handout, "Critical Reading of Short Stories" to help you, fill in all the elements of the story for "The Stolen Party." You may use bullets in each category, but be thorough in all categories, by giving clear, and reasonably developed answers with examples; also include some direct references (integrated quotes) when they contribute to your understanding. Do the first two pages of questions to the end of Theme.

1. Read the article "Over Our Heads" by Jonathon Gatehouse. Read it at least two times again. Do the following: 

a) Write a summary of the article. A summary  should be a paragraph of the essential information, only: not the details.

b) Glossary: do a glossary of all the words you do not know.  Write the word, the part of speech that it is, and a definition.  You should have many

English 11 Homework for Fri. February 27:

Soap for Hope: Please contribute to the box for these young people in need.

1. Synthesis Essay: be thinking about the development of your essay, especially your Body Paragraphs, but also your Conclusion, which should "universalize" the theme/thesis to us in the real world.

I also expect you to include descriptions of atmosphere or mood, important irony, symbols etc. as they enrich your essay.

English 10 Homework for Friday, February 27:

1. "The Loons": there is no official homework tonight; however, you should be thinking of the content/ideas for your essay, and how you will "universalize" the conclusion.

English 10 Homework for Thursday, Feb. 26:

1. Be working on ideas for your essay.  You should read "The Loons" again, and be working on your outline. 

Also, you should be choosing the "quotes" you want to use. That is another reason to read the story again and note the one's you might use.


English 11 Homework for Thursday, Feb. 26:

1. You may take home your short stories, Acceptable Outline handout, and the chart to work on for tomorrow's class. 

Also, please come with a Thesis statement. Tomorrow you are writing

English 11 Homework for Wed. February 25:

1. Synthesis Essay Prep: On the large paper I gave you today, try doing the following:  a) try creating a working thesis  b) create the points of synthesis for the essay c) start to work on the Outline d) Read The Stories Again!

Tomorrow you will be creating an outline in class and writing the essay over the next few days.
