English 12 Homework for Monday, May 9:
1. Please bring the article "Rotten Ice" back to class if you haven't: 6 have not come in.
2. What is the "objective" point of view. Have three examples of it.
3. "Personal Helicon" by Seamus Heaney. Always read a poem as many times as you need to and read the vocabulary notes at the bottom of the page, as they will help you understand the poem better.
Please do the multiple choice, and then do the paragraph question: "In paragraph form, and with specific reference to the poem, discuss the importance of the wells to the speaker." Be sure to integrate references into your paragraph.
4. Please develop ideas on the following questions:
a) What is a "tempest?" Define the term.
b) Find three or four examples of "tempests" and bring them to class.
c) Be prepared to discuss the effects of tempests.
d) What is the root word: where does it come from, and how is "time" a part of its meaning?
English 11 Homework due Thursday, April 28:
Read John Donne's poem "Death, be not proud."
1. Read the poem several times, before you look online.
2. Look up words you don't know. Also make sure you understand Personification and Apostrophe.
3. Write a paragraph showing your understanding of the poem.
4. Do an exellent S. I. F. T.

English 11 Homework for Yesterday, Monday, April 26 and Tomorrow April 27:
1. Yesterday's Homework should be done. See yesterday's blog.
Today's homework is to complete the Metaphor poem "A Kite is a Victim" and the S.I.F.T of the poem - then write a metaphorical poem yourself. You can do this in pairs if you like. Bring it tomorrow to share with the class.

English 9 Homework for Wednesday, April 27:
1. You should have a completed Introductory Paragraph with Thesis - word-processed.
Today, keep working on your First and Second and Third Body Paragraphs. These are the ideas of Synthesis you are working on in each BP. For now, do this in bullet form. Later they will be fully written out. So for each Body Paragraph do the following:
* First Body Paragraph:Topic Sentence 1 should be first and fully written out.
* first idea of Synthesis for BP 1
* second idea of Synthesis for BP 1
* third idea of Synthesis for BP 1
* concluding sentence for BP 1
Do exactly the same process for BP 2 and BP 3. Work on the BPs today and tomorrow, using the bullet for in the example above.
Word process it so it is legible and you can change your writing and ideas easily. If you can bring your computers, then do so.
English 12 Homework for Tuesday and Wednesday, April 26 and 27:
1. Keep working on your ideas for the Synthsis Essay that you will begin to write on Wednesday. Your Outline should include the following:
a. A fully developed Introductory Paragraph with thesis.
b. Three Body Paragraphs, each with a fully developed Topic Sentence AND 5-8 bullet points: some for synthesis and others for discussion of ideas.
c. Concluding Paragraph with the Thesis Reworded first, and 3-4 sentences that universalize your essay to the real world
d. A list of integrations you will use in quotes.

English 11 Homework due Monday, April 25: 1-6
1. Read "The Credo" by Robert Fulghum, 2 or 3 times, as a poem takes time to settle in you. What is a "credo"? Write a personal short poem in response to "The Credo."
2. Read the poem in Inside Poetry,"Poetry" by Pablo Neruda. Always read a poem several times.
3. Look up words in the poem that you need to. Write them down and define them.
4. S. I. F. T. Neruda's poem following every step in the S. I. F. T. Be thorough.
5. Read page one "Personal Response:The Poetry of Experience."
6. Then read and S. I. F. T. "ancestors" by Carolyn Dunn, "A Backwards Journey," "All the Dreaming" by Kathy Sinclair, "Fairy Tales" by Shu Ting, and "The Child Who Walks Backwards" by Christine Craig.
Bring all your work to class on Monday.
